This , the European Beech and its many and varied selections must rate as the best of the best in the ornamental deciduous plant world . It’s varieties range from low growing dwarf types to stately columns and all shapes and sizes in between . Coloured foliage is available in lustrous shades of green , yellow and intense purple on different varieties along with some variegated forms and numerous leaf shapes . Very hardy given average soil and cool climate conditions .
